Preferred Jet Center New Runway to Open December 2008

Preferred Jet Center is pleased to annouce the anticipated opening of its new 6305 x 100 ft concrete runway on December 1, 2008.

The long-awaited widening and paving project at Cobb County-McCollum Airport (KRYY) began in June with grading crews working at night to complete the first phase. During this time, the runway was widened to 100 feet, the shoulders and infield sections of the airport were graded and additional drainage was installed. Beginning Novemeber 10, crews started to complete the final phase to include concrete paving and striping. This phase will take 21 days to complete.

When it re-opens on December 1, it will not only be on the largest general aviation runways in metro Atlanta, Ga., but also one fo the safest. "We are very excited to have such infrastructure here at McCollum," said Andrew Ash, General Manager. "We anticipatae this runway to play a significant role in our ongoing effort to gain the attnetion of flight departments to our facility. This will certainly increase our marketability for based and transient operations."

As a reliever for general aviation in Atlanta, Preferred has already seen the impact runway improvements can make to a fixed base operation. In 2006, a lengthening project was completed taking the runway to 6305 feet. Today, aircraft can originate longer legs out of McCollum safer than ever before and expedite their departures much quicker.
