TSA Launches Security Program for FBOs

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) recently launched the Secure Fixed Base Operator Program to enhance security on general aviation aircraft inbound to the United States. It enables FBOs to check passenger and crew identification against Electronic Advance Passenger Information System (eAPIS) filings.

Signature Flight Support locations in Anchorage, Alaska, and Shannon, Ireland, are the initial participants in this pilot project. At both locations, Signature representatives verify the identities of each passenger and crew member onboard.

"Signature is the only participant currently, but it is likely that other FBOs will be participating in the future," said Eric Byer, a spokesman with the National Air Transportation Association.

Byer said that this effort is currently unrelated to the Twelve-Five Standard Security Program.
