IFBOA Solidifies Itself in 2007

Though less than two years old, the Independent Fixed Base Operator Association (IFBOA) hit the ground running in 2007 by adding 28 members, announcing plans to open an office in Europe and aggregating key services required by FBOs.

Several new programs are designed to standardize safety efforts within the general aviation industry. IFBOA is working with the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association to develop a safety management system for FBOs. And although no formal certification process currently exists for general managers and line service technicians at independent FBOs, that could change, according to John Wraga, IFBOA's executive director.

The organization seeks to serve its members holistically. Smaller independent FBOs generally are not equipped to market themselves globally. But members can receive discounts on advertising services and other marketing opportunities, Wraga adds.

The IFBOA is also forging alliances with fuel suppliers and a credit card program. Discounts on aircraft parts are available through its partnership with the Global Trade Group, Inc.

Members are encouraged to seek counsel on all industry issues from board members, who cumulatively offer 135 years of experience in the industry.
