Profound change is coming to the flight-training industry, prompted by new legislation in the U.S. and by the rapid growth of airline and business aviation in countries where aviation is finally gaining a stronger foothold. The changes are underscored by what many predict will be a shortage of pilots, thanks to fewer new pilot entrants, large numbers of retirements and lack of general aviation infrastructure in emerging countries such as India and China.
The National Business Aviation Association (NBAA) has joined more than 60 businesses and organizations nationwide in signing a letter urging congress to extend "bonus" depreciation, allowing for accelerated cost recovery of strategic purchases, including business aircraft.
The National Business Aviation Association welcomed passage of bipartisan legislation prohibiting the implementation of a new carbon-trading regime for aircraft flying from the U.S. to the European Union.
The FAA will block aircraft registration numbers "only after the operators certify that they have a valid security concern," the Department on Transportation announced in a press release on Friday.
This change essentially ends the Block Aircraft Registration Request (BARR) program.
