Digital Wireless Sound System Offers up to Five Listening Selections

Flight Display Systems president and founder, David Gray, is leading an industry revolution.Flight Display Systems, the leader in manufacturing cabin entertainment solutions, introduced at NBAA the aircraft industry’s first 5-Source Wireless Audio Transmitter, which is designed to bring maximum on-board listening versatility.

Paired with Flight Display Systems’ digital five-source selectable wireless headsets, passengers can enjoy untethered freedom and a wide variety of pure digital sound programming virtually anywhere in the cabin. A select button built into the headset allows for easy channel access. A wide-range volume control on the headset also allows remote management of the audio choices.

Weighing only 14 ounces, the 28VDC compact-low profile transmitter unit produces 2.43 GHz digital signals providing maximum transmission range. Incorporating five input channels for flexible audio programming, customers can ‘plug in’ their own portable digital devices like iPods and MP3 players or choose other on-board audio sources in combination such as satellite radio, CD players, DVD, VCR and TV sound.

According to David Gray, founder and president of Flight Display Systems, the company has the only STC certified wireless high fidelity audio systems available for cabin entertainment in the industry.

“Over the last seven years, our original two and three-channel systems have been the industry benchmark,” Gray said. “As more and more portable and hard-wired electronics have come into the market, the customer demand to add more channels to the aircraft cabin environment has increased. With the advent of newer digital technology, our new five-source product is just the ticket for those seeking greater on-board audio listening fidelity and flexibility.”

Gray said the new 5-Source Wireless Audio Transmitter was part of Flight Display Systems’ new Select Series line of products. Besides the transmitter, the Select Series includes a line of FLY HD LCD monitors available in 17-, 20-, 26-, 32- and 42-inch sizes. The ‘Fly HD’ LCD monitors are the first true hi-definition monitors to be PMA certified and are available through dealers now. Also available soon is a new Select Series Moving Map Computer that offers superior VGA resolution incorporating NASA’s satellite imagery. The Select Series line of products offers premium features not found in the standard product line.

The new 5-Source Wireless Audio Transmitter (FD900X5) incorporates a Pilot Public Address (PA) interrupt, automatic gain control, modern circuitry, increased transmission range and sells for $2,958. The 5-Source Headset (FD24X5) lists for $250 and is a premium design featuring total ear surround, high fidelity, large speaker, wide volume range and can collapse for compact storage.
