Speed Record Attempt Made from Historic OAK Terminal

The latest attempt at an airspeed record occurred on May 19 in the shadows of the 1920s Art Deco terminal at Oakland International Airport (OAK). Christopher Freeze and Rodrigo von Contra aimed to set a new speed record in a Class C aircraft over a recognized course between Oakland and Mojave (Calif.) Airport (MHV). They completed the course in a modified Mooney M20J and have submitted their required flight documentation to the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) in order to claim the record.

Hangar 10 Opens at MKC

The new Hangar 10 aviation services complex at the Kansas City, Mo., Charles B. Wheeler Downtown Airport (MKC) has officially opened for business. The 91,000 square foot aviation services complex is currently operating from a temporary facility located on 10 acres at the northwest end of the field. A new 40,000 gallon fuel farm has been installed. An extensive ramp is in place to accommodate fully fueled transport-sized business aircraft such as a Boeing BBJ.
