TBL01 in Action: Elevating Ramp Operations at SJO
/Ground handling is all about precision, timing, and coordination. Every second on the ramp counts — and the right equipment can make the difference between a good turnaround and an exceptional one.
That’s why, earlier this year, Aerojet Handling Group proudly introduced its newest towbarless tractor, TBL01, into operation at Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO). Since its arrival in July 2025, it has quickly become one of the most valuable assets in our daily pushback operations.
The Next Level of Pushback Efficiency
Unlike traditional pushback tractors that require individual towbars for each aircraft type, the TBL01 uses a towbarless system that connects directly to the aircraft’s nose gear. This means our operators can perform pushbacks and repositioning faster, with fewer equipment changes and less ramp congestion.
Its advanced control system and hydrostatic transmission allow for precise maneuvering, even in tight spaces — an essential feature for operations at busy gates or during simultaneous aircraft handling.
But efficiency isn’t just about speed — it’s also about presentation and safety. The TBL01’s modern design and advanced technology give our operations a more professional and prestigious image, while maintaining strict adherence to IATA safety standards.
Every Machine Has Its Mission
At AS Handling Group, every piece of equipment on our ramp plays a crucial role. Our electric units are ideal for private flights and environmentally sensitive areas, offering quiet and emission-free operations. Our conventional pushback tractors continue to serve reliably for larger aircraft and complex maneuvers that require specific power ranges.
The TBL01 complements this fleet perfectly — it’s not here to replace our existing tools, but to enhance versatility and operational readiness. Whether it’s handling commercial flights during peak hours or supporting rapid aircraft repositioning, TBL01 brings flexibility and performance that elevate the entire operation.
Voices from the Ramp
According to Mauricio, Manager of Ramp Operations at SJO:
“The TBL01 has been excellent for pushback. It was definitely worth the investment and gave us a more prestigious presence at the airport with such advanced equipment. It would be great to have another trailer like the TBL01 to continue growing and improve our image.”
His words sum up exactly what the TBL01 represents — progress, professionalism, and pride in our work.
Moving Forward
The introduction of the TBL01 is another step in our ongoing commitment to innovation, safety, and efficiency. At Aerojet Handling Group, we believe technology should empower our people — giving them the tools to perform each operation with confidence, precision, and pride.
The TBL01 isn’t just a new addition to our ramp — it’s a symbol of growth, teamwork, and the continuous evolution of our service excellence.
