John Glenn, Pilot, Astronaut, Former U.S. Senator, Dies at 95

He is a member of several elite clubs, two of which touch the Aviation Week Network.

At AC-U-KWIK, we remember him as one of the relative few who has a namesake airport, John Glenn Columbus International Airport, in Columbus, Ohio.

And as a pioneering astronaut, he was one of the first humans to orbit the Earth, which he accomplished in the Friendship 7 capsule during the MA-6 mission of the Mercury program. That experience put him in the position to share his pilot report in the pages of the April 23, 1962, issue of Aviation Week & Space Technology, one of the outstanding moments in the history of our sister publication.
