Phillips 66 Aviation Announces 2013 Lifetime Achievement And Safety Awards Winners

Showalter Flying Service, at Florida’s Orlando Executive Airport (KORL), earned the Phillips 66 Lifetime Achievement Award for nearly seven decades of service to the aviation industry.

“It is my privilege to announce that the Lifetime Achievement Award goes to a family-owned and run business whose success spans nearly seven decades,” said Bryan Faria, General Manager Aviation, Phillips 66. “Recognizing that customer service is the key to winning and keeping business, Showalter Flying Service built a nationwide reputation for providing the services and accommodations their customer base – the flying public – desired.”

Winners of the Phillips Lifetime Achievement Award must meet several benchmarks. Recipients are selected for dedicating a lifetime of efforts to the business and aviation industry; activity with key industry associations (such as NATA, NBAA, EAA and others) that improved a significant area of aviation; and having a major impact on local and regional aviation communities.

Showalter Flying Service has built a loyal following by instilling a family culture throughout its operations. In fact, everyone working at Showalter Flying Service has a name tag with the last name “Showalter.”

“Family culture in our business is so important,” explained Kim Showalter, President of Showalter Flying Service, who runs the fixed base operator with her husband Bob, Chairman of the FBO. “Everybody here is the same, they ought to be treated the same.”

Founded by Howard Showalter, his younger brother Sandy, and their cousin Buck Rogers, the fixed base operator has been run by Bob and Kim since 1965. Today, Howard’s grandchildren, Sandy and Jenny Showalter, also work for the FBO.

“My dad always had great loyalty amongst his employees when I was a kid at this place,” explained Bob Showalter. “Most of his employees had been here a long time, and that’s true today. It’s a very stable workforce and that’s what works for us.”

A Phillips 66-branded FBO since 1979, “Showalter Flying Service has been an excellent steward of the brand,” Faria said.
