WASHINGTON—Signature Flight Support will provide ground support to Uber Air and Uber Copter operations in a nationwide partnership with Uber Elevate, Signature chief commercial officer Shawn Hall says.

At this week’s Uber Elevate Summit, the expansive FBO organization announced it will be the first ground handling company to translate its experience to the aerial ridesharing industry. Additionally, Signature will act as a main contributor in the development of “Skyport” infrastructure to be used by Uber Air electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles (eVTOLs) to pick up and drop off passengers.

“Signature flight Support’s operational prowess and industry-leading understanding of the private aviation space makes them an ideal fit for Uber Elevate’s business,” head of Uber Elevate Eric Allison says.

Although commercial aerial ridesharing will not be available until 2023, Uber Elevate is working to launch its first real demonstration of the experience this summer. Uber Copter will conduct its inaugural aerial rideshare by helicopter on July 7 from Lower Manhattan to John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Uber has chosen Signature to be the ground-based operator of choice for Uber Copter. HeliFlite will operate the initial Uber Copter flights. Earlier at the summit, Uber Elevate announced that Jaunt Air Mobility will act as the company’s fifth eVTOL engineering partner for Uber Air.

Uber announced its aerial ridesharing service in 2016.
