The Weekly of Business Aviation, 49 Years Ago

Looking ahead to NBAA2015 next week, let's first look back.

AC-U-KWIK and the rest of the Aviation Week Network will commemorate The Weekly of Business Aviation's 50th anniversary at the Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition. To help celebrate, we share this copy of the Weekly from this week 49 (close enough!) years ago.

Forty-nine years ago, The Weekly of Business Aviation, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, covers the Cessna 421, which would be delivered to customers the following year. The lead story in the Nov. 18, 1966, issue announces the $159,000 price of the Cessna 421, the pressurized version of its 411 predecessor, and its availability by the following summer.

A search through former editor Danna Henderson's archives also turned up a sister publication, the American Aviation Daily NBAA Special published during the 19th gathering of the NBAA convention. The front-page story says 2000 attendees in 1966 set an attendance record. Now, the convention attracts 26,000 attendees and is the fifth-largest trade show in the United States, according to NBAA.

American Aviation Daily, a sister publication to The Weekly of Business Aviation, covered the 19th NBAA convention in 1966. The publication says 105 exhibitors participated. At the 2015 convention, 1100 exhibitors are expected.Inside the NBAA Special of American Aviation Daily, sister publication to The Weekly of Business Aviation, from 1966.We'll see you in booth N5521 at NBAA2015.
