OneWeb to Expand In-Flight Connectivity

OneWeb SatellitesOneWeb, a global communications company, is working to deliver global fiber-like broadband service to any air route, short or long-haul flights, and over routes previously not possible to connect.

Working with distribution partners, OneWeb’s communications network is designed to allow airlines to offer passengers and crew a faster and reliable experience in accessing data and internet services in-flight. OneWeb’s inflight services will be available in a variety of packages, with fit for purpose onboard equipment to match each airline’s requirements.

OneWeb will be highlighting its global aviation connectivity services at the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) Expo, Sept 9-12, in Los Angeles, CA, including plans for complete polar coverage across the northern tracks and live service.

OneWeb is a founding member, along with Airbus, Airtel, Delta Air Lines and Sprint, of the Seamless Air Alliance, which is aiming to simplify the in-flight connectivity process, allowing any passenger, boarding any flight, on any airline, anywhere in the world, to use their own devices to automatically connect to the Internet without a complicated login process or pay wall.  There will be an update on this alliance at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February 2020.
