Carpets for FBOs

Photo by: Julie Jantzer-WardA couple weeks ago, we noticed a CNN.com post about Carpets for Airports, a Web site that waxes critical on the artistic and design merits of carpets in airport terminals around the world.

Like many of the best Web sites and Internet memes, it is a bemusing way to waste some time.

So knowing that many of the pilots who use AC-U-KWIK have down time between flights, we invite all to send us photos of carpets at FBOs. Like the contributors who place the airport carpet on a pedestal, anyone submitting photos of FBO carpets should include the airport and FBO name and an analysis of the carpet design.

To show that nothing is sacred, we at AC-U-KWIK will add the first carpet photos to the gallery ...

Stirring the Pot of Airport Identifier Alphabet Soup

One of our favorite things about working in the world of aviation is the alphabet soup of airport identifiers we encounter every day.

Some of us at AC-U-KWIK proudly reminisce about the first time we remembered that SUS is shorthand for Spirit of St. Louis Airport or that HPN is another way to say White Plains, N.Y.

When we came across this piece about airport code history, we had a good excuse to ponder the puzzles of airport codes that appear to be assigned without rhyme or reason.

My Other Car Is a Roadable Light Sport Aircraft

It's the 21st Century. Aren't we supposed to have flying cars by now?

We won't meet George Jetson or Jane, his wife, just yet. But a roadable aircraft is a step in the right direction. Check out the Terrafugia Transition and this video of a March 5 test takeoff and landing at PBG.

Here's hoping it brings us a step closer to robot maids.
