Software Plays Traffic Cop for FBOs

One sure way to damage client business and lose revenue is to misplace aircraft once it is on the ground.

One Mile Up, an aviation software company in Virginia, offers a tracking program that helps map a ground facility's traffic flow and departure/arrival times and schedule maintenance services. Data generated by the program can be used for forecasting and citing system flaws, such as an FBO’s failure to collect landing fees on incoming aircraft.

“Considering the cost of business aircraft, you don't want to make unnecessary aircraft movements,” said Gene Velazquez, president of One Mile Up. “This visual system allows FBOs to build a model of what their environment looks like.”

This year, the software will be available via the Internet. Different parties can simultaneously view a facility’s mapping and scheduling information. By becoming more efficient, FBOs are better positioned to generate more business. One client, an FBO in ski country, has eight hangars, and Velazquez estimates that the facility saves one hour a day by using One Mile Up’s software.

He added that 30 percent of his customers are building new facilities and that One Mile Up helped figure out traffic flow and facility dimensions in the process of building out their space.
